German carmakers stop work for game

Assembly lines at at least two German carmakers will be standing still on Thursday as the automobile manufactures allow their employees to watch Germany take on Italy in the Uefa Euro 2012™ semifinals.
Some 2 500 workers on late shifts at the BMW works in Regensburg will have the chance to watch the match on three large screens at the plant, the car company said Tuesday.
"Various flexibility measures" however will keep from there being any delays in deliveries.
Volkswagen will also allow their workers to watch the game at their plant in Wolfsburg.
"We are celebrating this year 50 years of the Italians being in Wolfsburg. So the euphoria is pretty high that our national teams are facing off in the semifinals," said VW workers' council member Guido Mehlhop.
"Therefore of course all of our workers will be able to watch the game."
